Jimena Olmos

PearlDamour visits schools in all of the Miltons. In Oregon, we have been doing writing and performance workshops with Ms. Baneck’s middle school class based on the play MILTON. We ask students to think about who they are and where they come from. Here is a poem Jimena wrote in response to these questions:

I come from a Saturday morning with my team, smelling sweat and grass.
I come from Pringles I eat right after a game, on the way back home.
I come from arriving back at Milton Freewater from a game, with my team, and walking to Dutch Bros.
I come from tamales I see every Sunday morning at my grandma’s house.
I come from“Nina Mena”, says my cousin when I see him at my grandma’s house.
I come from Netflix buffering so I just look at it load then slowly fall asleep.
